The Importance of a Card

An online friend recently lost her dad. After her period of mourning was over she  was back online and expressed how moved she was to have received so many expressions of sympathy.

Most of the messages were in the form of emails or posts to her Facebook wall. But the most precious and heart warming messages were those sent by mail either in the form of a card or a letter.

She is an email person and never sent a card to anyone. All of her well wishes or condolences were always sent by email.

She went on to explain that there was something  very special

about having gotten those cards and letters in the mail.

As strange as it sounds there was a form of healing that took place

when she held those cards and letters in her hands.

She came to realize how very special these items are

and told us how ,unlike the emails,

she was going save these cards and letters as a keep sake.

Her hope is to someday take them out and read them again. She knows that they will continue to comfort her

An email is quick and easy...but a card or letter is more difficult. It takes time and thought and conveys to the receiver that you took the time and you thought of them.

As I create my note cards I am thinking of the person who will send it and the person who will receive it.

There is an unspoken bond between me and the sender. How so? In the process of creating I give a piece of myself. I express through my art.

Likewise the sender also gives a piece of themselves. The message they write  reveals the thoughts and the sentiments of their heart.

There are some of us who have lost loved ones . We have only their memory. Sometimes if we're  lucky we have an old tattered

birthday card or a short note they scribbled and sent to us.

It's not just a piece of paper...it's a memory, an object of deep sentimental value.

I firmly believe that the written letter or card speaks to the heart better than any email can. An email can never replace a tangible handwritten note that can create a memory and remains behind long after we are gone.

I  would love to hear from you. I am interested in what you have to say

because  it's important to me so please  leave a comment and let me know what you think about the topic of sending cards.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Until Next time.

Irma
